WCCN made its first direct investment in a climate solution: Albedo Solar

Working Capital for Community Needs (WCCN) recently made its first direct investment in a climate solution through a $150,000 loan to Albedo Solar, a Guatemalan company that offers affordable solar energy options to individuals, and SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises).

Guatemala has the most expensive electricity rates in Central America, and ranks among the top five in all of Latin America (Global Petrol Prices). These high costs put a significant burden on families and entrepreneurs, forcing them to sacrifice other parts of their lives so that they can keep the lights on.

WCCN’s investment enables Albedo Solar to support SMEs transitioning to solar energy with no upfront cost, offering them affordable and efficient energy solutions that help their businesses thrive while also benefiting the environment.

An SME in Guatemala using solar energy.

The impact we aim to create:

  • Lower energy expenses for SMEs, helping them reinvest in their growth.

  • Improve energy reliability in marginalized urban and rural areas.

  • Reduce carbon emissions and indoor air pollution, fostering healthier communities.

At WCCN, we are investing in solutions that create long-term value for both people and the planet.

We thank our supporters for making this journey possible and for believing in the power of impact investing for social change.
